Work Samples
Character Design
I am currently enrolled in a character design course where I am learning in-depth skills in creating characters. I began with 20 silhouettes for this character and then picked three to light paint. After that, I decided to combine my top three into the current showcased drawing. I will keep my progress updated here with photos as this character goes from a 2D image to a 3D ZBrush sculpt.
ZBrush Sculpts
Here are just a few samples of some work I’ve done in ZBrush. I am constantly working to improve my skills in this form of modeling. The crab sculpt was a speed sculpt and I was only given 30 minutes to sculpt it.
Concept to 3D
I can quite accurately take concept art of ideas and accurately model them into the 3D world. I used ZBrush to sculpt the pumpkin and 3DS Max for the hard surface modeling work. I also used Substance Painter to bake and texture the model.
Unique World Creation
I was tasked with creating a unique world with unique functions in Unreal Engine. I created a short walkthrough experience in Unreal Engine. My world is called Zaakyn, and it is a world unlike any alien world typically seen in films and games. I was challenged to think outside the box and create something with systems unlike Earth’s. My world lore was very in-depth, but this is an image of the concept art and the world in Unreal Engine. A video of the walkthrough experience can be found here.
Unique World Creation - Garmer
A slight continuation of the previous section, this is a Garmer, a creature that exists in the world I’ve created. I modeled it and rigged it in 3DS Max. I enjoyed the process of rigging and I’ve been learning more and more about the CATS rigging system in 3DS Max.
In the Style of: Antoni Gaudi
I was tasked with creating a lighting implement that was inspired by the art of Antoni Gaudi. For this, I chose to make a lamp post since he was known for designing quite a few lamp posts. I enjoyed this project and I learned how to take critique quite well, as seen by the first two iterations before the final version. I completely redesigned my idea after receiving critique and I am very glad I did.
Space Replication
Can you guess which photo is the fake? I recreated a photo I took on the campus of the University of Idaho in 3D. I learned a lot about creating realistic textures and creating textures from photos I took. The modeling was done in 3DS Max and the lighting was done in Unreal Engine 5. If you couldn’t guess, the photo on the left is the 3D-modeled fake.
CATS Rigging
This was my first experience learning to rig and I decided to explore the rigging abilities in 3DS max - specifically the CATS system. I quite enjoy the process of it and how easy 3DS Max tends to make it. The character was modeled in 3DS Max as well and was inspired by a 2D ferret found in the game Super Animal Royale.
Low Poly “Feast”
The goal of the project was to try to stay as low poly as possible and to utilize trim sheets. This was one of my earlier projects, but it still holds up quite well. The model and render were both done in 3DS Max.
Reimagined World
This was a simple 2D art project where we took a picture we had of someplace and reimagined it completely differently. The image shown here isn’t the original one I used, but it is very similar to the one I used. It was around Halloween when I drew this so I went for a silly world where everything was inspired by the holiday. This was one of my early projects in the VTD (Virtual Technology and Design) program.
Knife Recreation
This was one of my first true experiences with 3D modelling and texturing. I was given a specific knife and told to recreate it to the best of my abilities in 3D. I am very proud with how it turned out.
After Effects Animation
This is just a silly little animation I made using After Effects. It only took me 3 hours to do, including the time to animate a walk cycle for the character, edit the background photos, and find sounds. It shows well that I can work quickly on projects if need be.
